Volunteer and volunteer driver insurance

In some areas such as transportation, ALOFT will pay expenses for volunteers and will make available low cost insurance for volunteers and volunteer drivers. ALOFT will also develop opportunities for life-long learning and encore careers.

2-10+ hours per month commitment. Develop your own job deliverables and do work you enjoy.

Volunteer coordinators: recruit, train, supervise volunteers

  • Social/cultural/lifelong learning & event planning leaders — to help plan & implement interesting and fun agendas for seminars, trips; recruit speakers, mobilize refreshments.
  • Member support leader – information  & referral, answer questions, maintaining phone connections, ensuring member satisfaction.
  • Multiple coordinators to stay in touch with local houses of worship, social service organizations, civic clubs and charitable organizations and schedule small group discussions with  ALOFT.
  • Plan intergenerational symposia:  (1) Technology & Aging with Pace University, local high schools and scouts; (2) Workforce Development best practices (direct care workers) with county and state legislators, policy makers, local officials.

Volunteers

  • Community:  Drivers, friendly visitors, walk/feed dog, water plants indoors, read to a child, teach digital photography, computer skills.
  • Professionals to volunteer time:  Attorney, financial planner.
  • Recruit vendor discounts and special consideration for members.
  • Join speakers’ bureau – help create and give talks on variety of topics having to do with living safely and confidently in northeast Westchester as we grow older.
  • Grants research and writing.

Livable Communities Task force participants:  to help plan agendas, recruit people to present at educational sessions, create educational materials.

  • Transportation task force – help recruit coalition of regional transportation vendors and social service organizations.
  • Healthcare task force – help plan to become region of choice for direct care workers
  • Intergenerational task force – help plan technology training courses, supervise intergenerational sessions.
  • Smart Growth/Land Use/Housing alternatives task force – research, presentations.
  • Social entrepreneurism – encore careers – research local interests and preferences; business planning; start & build businesses of interest and support. Possibly co-op landscaping, chore service, in-home technology assistance and instruction.

ALOFT is a mutually supportive nonprofit organization developing intergenerational strategies to enable older residents to remain in Bedford, Lewisboro, Mt Kisco, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and Somers.
