Wednesday, April 8, 2009, 12:15 PM Older Driver Safety: Things to Know, Equipment to Help Featuring Eileen Seidell and Lily Chan Graduate Occupational Therapy Students and CarFit Instructors Mercy College. Location: South Salem Fire House.
Monday, May 4, 2009, 10 AM - 3 PM. CarFit: A program designed to give older drivers a quick but comprehensive check of how well they and their vehicle work together. A trained professional will ask simple questions and complete a 12-point CarFit checklist. The entire process takes about 20 minutes, and the driver leaves with recommenations for car adjustments and adaptations, and a list of resources in the area that could enhance safety as a driver. Featuring Kathleen Golisz, OTR, OTD, Associate Professor Mercy College Occupational Therapy Program An appointment is required. Thursday, May 7, 2009, 3 PM Project Lifesaver: Radio technology for people who wander Featuring Nancy D’Auria, Project Lifesaver Coordinator for the Hebrew Home in Riverdale Project Lifesaver provides radio frequency bracelets for people who are at risk of wandering from their homes due to Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias. Westchester County is providing this technology for free to the first 100 enrollees. Location: My Second Home, 95 Radio Circle, Mt Kisco.
Monday, June 1, 2009, 2:30 PM Crimebusters: How to stay safe and avoid financial exploitation. Featuring Director of Consumer Protection, Gary Brown, and others. This proactive elder fraud and crime prevention program provides tips to older adults on how to stay safe and avoid financial exploitation and other scams. This program will alert seniors to the most common scams, tell-tale techniques perpetrators use, and whom to alert if they identify a scam or are victimized. They will also learn how to protect their physical safety in situations such as shopping at the mall or walking in a neighborhood park. Location: Bedford Hills Community House
