ALOFT is a consumer-driven program, which means that the needs and interests of the membership determine the kinds of offerings available. This site will be the source of new services and programs added in response to the changing interests of our membership.
ALOFT Mission is to develop intergenerational strategies that enable older residents to remain safely and confidently in their homes and communities.
ALOFT has three main goals
1. To enable residents to remain in their homes by providing essential tools: Better transportation alternatives, improved access to home health care, access to vetted home maintenance service providers and to ensure access to internet-based communications.
2. To educate residents about opportunities for safe and confident living. Continue monthly educational programs in conjunction with town recreation departments, houses of worship and other points of social gathering.
3. To engage all older residents in fun and inspiring ways that keep people connected if they are already connected and to establish connections where none exist, while building on local preferences and existing patterns of interaction.
- Methods include: Volunteerism, fitness programs, social networking, local cultural events and educational programming -- whether crafts, books, or skills -- all specifically designed for older residents.
Free programs available to all in Northeast Westchester:
- Monthly educational programs
- Information and referral to regional healthcare, legal and social services
- Intergenerational technology skills training
- Volunteer opportunities to work with other residents to plan improvements in services, housing options, transportation and other essential supports. Access to intergenerational and service volunteer program opportunities through collaboration with other organizations.
- Monthly newsletter with information about local educational events, member-only programs, and topics of concern to older residents.
- Comprehensive website with up to date monthly Calendar of Events, presenting a world of free and low cost cultural, entertainment and learning ideas just around the corner. See homepage at www.goALOFT.org.
Benefits of an ALOFT Membership:
1. Comprehensive register of pre-screened providers of services that ALOFT members have requested, such as plumbers, electricians, homecare workers, downsizing services, and more. More than a list, it’s a guide for help to solve household maintenance, safety and personal services needs.
2. Access to programs and special rates tailored to the needs and preferences of older residents, like Caramoor, guided walking groups, chair yoga, trainer-led exercise classes, special rates at a local fitness club that offers special strength, flexibility and endurance training for older adults, and a wide variety of social and cultural programming.
3. Discounts, rebates and special merchant benefits exclusively for ALOFT members from our Community Affiliates, including and dozens more merchants in our region.
4. Opportunities to volunteer and receive volunteer help available to members for help with whatever our members say they want help with (chores, landscaping, technology, etc.).
More benefits on the way
As our membership grows, so will our services. ALOFT is a fledgling, growing organization.
More technology training and in-home computer support.
Intergenerational Technology Skills Training
Enhance your lifestyle with the Joy of Youth. ALOFT is recruiting young volunteers to match their enthusiasm, special skills and knowledge to your technology needs. It’s a winning combination and a key to our intergenerational programs. You will be able to take advantage of our intergenerational Technology Tamers, volunteers dedicated to helping you with those pesky computers, CD and cell phones that won’t do what you want them to do and to help you use them to their full potential.
